Comprehensive Eye Exams

Providing thorough eye health evaluations for every age.

Chippewa Valley Eye Clinic offers routine eye exams and a thorough evaluation of the health of your eyes

A comprehensive eye exam is about more than updating your glasses prescription. It evaluates your vision and the overall health of your eyes — detecting common conditions such as glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration, and early signs of systemic disease (like diabetes or high blood pressure) when they are easiest to treat.

What to Expect at Your Appointment

  • Medical & vision history review — discuss symptoms, medications, family eye health, and daily visual needs.

  • Visual acuity test — measures distance and near vision to determine if a corrective prescription is needed.

  • Refraction — determines your glasses/contact lens prescription.

  • Slit-lamp (microscopic) exam — close inspection of the front structures of the eye (cornea, iris, lens) to check for injury, infection, dry eye, or early cataract.

  • Intraocular pressure (IOP) measurement — painless testing that screens for glaucoma risk.

  • Dilated retinal exam — drops may be used to widen your pupils so we can thoroughly examine the retina and optic nerve for disease.

  • Digital retinal imaging / fundus photography — high-resolution photos to document retinal health and compare over time.

  • Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) — cross-sectional imaging of the retina and optic nerve to detect subtle macular or glaucoma changes early.

  • Corneal topography / tomography (when indicated) — maps the shape and thickness of the cornea for contact lens fitting and refractive surgery screening.

  • Visual field testing (when indicated) — measures peripheral vision to evaluate for glaucoma or neurological issues.

You have unique vision needs. At Chippewa Valley Eye Clinic, we tailor the exam to your age, symptoms, medical history, and visual acuity. Typical components include:

Each test is chosen to answer a specific question about your vision or eye health; we will explain findings and next steps during your visit.
